Petal Brass Glass Ceiling Light
Product Description
SevernLighting
Along the River Severn, old riverside houses keep their light low and warm: modest ceilings, polished brass and rooms that glow softly after dark. The Petal Brass Glass Ceiling Light by SevernLighting was designed for rooms like these. Curved panels of frosted glass open like petals inside a slim antique brass frame, forming a scalloped crown that sits close to the ceiling and gathers at a turned brass medallion and finial.
Switched on, the frosted glass softens every bulb into an even, glare-free glow. At just 16–19 cm (6.3–7.5″) tall, this flush mount ceiling light is ideal for bedrooms, hallways and period homes with low ceilings. Choose from three sizes, Small, Medium and Large, measuring Ø35, Ø45 and Ø60 cm (13.8″, 17.7″ and 23.6″) across.
DETAILS MATTER
What Makes It Special
01 Brass Frame, Petal Silhouette
Each glass panel is set into a fine brass outline, shaped so the upper tier forms a scalloped crown and the lower tier curves inward like petals meeting at the centre. Viewed from the side or from directly below, the light reads as a single flower in brass and glass.
02 Frosted Glass, Glare-Free Glow
The frosted glass hides the bulbs completely and spreads their light evenly across every panel. Instead of bright points overhead, you get a soft, warm glow that fills the room gently, comfortable enough for a bedroom and welcoming in a hallway.
03 Made for Low Ceilings
As a flush mount fixture, it sits directly against the ceiling and stands only 16–19 cm (6.3–7.5″) tall. That leaves plenty of headroom in rooms where a pendant or chandelier would hang too low, from cottage bedrooms to narrow landings.
04 Three Sizes, Standard Bulbs
Choose Small, Medium or Large to match the size of your room. Every size uses standard E26/E27 bulbs, so replacements are easy to find and you can choose the brightness and warmth you prefer. Warm white LED bulbs bring out the best in the brass and glass.

Where It Fits Best
A low-profile brass and glass flower that keeps the ceiling clear and the light soft.
In the Bedroom
Lying in bed, you look straight up at the ceiling, and this is where the petal design shines. The frosted glass hides every bulb, so the light stays soft rather than glaring, and the low profile keeps a modest ceiling feeling open. Pair it with warm white bulbs for a calm, restful room.
Also Shines In
In a Hallway
A warm welcome the moment you step in.
In a Cottage Kitchen
Even light without a low-hanging pendant.
In a Dining Room
A classic centrepiece above the table.
Finding Your Fit
A simple rule: add the length and width of your room in feet, and the result is roughly the right fixture diameter in inches. Small (13.8″) suits hallways and rooms up to about 9 m², Medium (17.7″) suits 9–16 m², and Large (23.6″) suits 16–25 m². For a long hallway, use two or three smaller lights spaced evenly.

FIXTURE DETAILS
Inspired by the scalloped glass ceiling lights of traditional English homes, the Petal Brass Glass Ceiling Light from SevernLighting pairs a brass frame in an antique finish with frosted glass petals. It comes in three sizes, Ø35, Ø45 and Ø60 cm (13.8″, 17.7″ and 23.6″), standing 16 to 19 cm (6.3–7.5″) tall, and is designed for hardwired flush ceiling installation.
Uses standard E26/E27 bulbs, sold separately. Warm white LED bulbs between 2700K and 3000K are recommended.
Questions & Answers
Which size should I choose?
Small (Ø35 cm / 13.8″) suits hallways, landings and rooms up to about 9 m² (100 sq ft). Medium (Ø45 cm / 17.7″) fits most bedrooms and kitchens of about 9–16 m². Large (Ø60 cm / 23.6″) is best for living rooms, dining rooms and larger bedrooms of about 16–25 m². If you are between two sizes, the larger one gives a brighter, more generous glow.
Is it suitable for low ceilings?
Yes. It is a flush mount light that sits directly against the ceiling and stands only 16–19 cm (6.3–7.5″) tall, so it works well in rooms with ceilings under 2.5 m (8 ft) where a pendant would hang too low.
Are bulbs included?
No. The light uses standard E26 or E27 medium base bulbs, sold separately. We recommend warm white LED bulbs (2700K–3000K), which run cool and bring out the warmth of the brass and glass.
Can I see the bulbs through the glass?
No. The frosted glass diffuses the light, so you see a soft, even glow across every petal rather than individual bulbs. This also keeps the light comfortable to look at from below.
Is it made of real brass?
Yes. The frame is brass with an antique brass finish, paired with frosted white glass panels.
How is it installed?
The light is hardwired, which means it connects directly to the wiring in your ceiling. The canopy fixes to a standard ceiling junction box, and the installation guide is shown in the drawings above. We recommend installation by a licensed electrician.
Can I use it with a dimmer?
Dimming depends on the bulbs and switch you use. Please contact the SevernLighting team before ordering and we will confirm the right setup for your home.
How do I change the bulbs?
Switch off the power and let the light cool. Remove the centre finial to release the glass shade, then lower it carefully to reach the bulbs. Replace the shade and finial in the reverse order.
How do I care for the brass and glass?
Wipe the brass gently with a soft, dry cloth, and clean the glass with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid metal polish, abrasive pads and chemical cleaners, as these can strip the antique finish. Always switch off the power and let the fixture cool before cleaning.

SevernLighting · Flush Mount Ceiling Light
PetalA soft light, close to the ceiling.
Curved panels of frosted glass open like petals inside a fine brass frame in an antique finish, forming a scalloped crown that sits flush to the ceiling and gathers at a turned brass medallion and finial. The glass hides every bulb and turns it into one even, glare-free glow. At just 16–19 cm (6.3–7.5″) tall, it is made for bedrooms, hallways and period rooms where a pendant would hang too low.

The Anatomy
Six parts, one flower of light
Every part of the Petal has a job: to hold the glass, to hide the bulbs and to keep the light soft.
- Brass rim sits flush against the ceiling.
- Frosted glass panels form the scalloped crown.
- Brass ribs outline every panel.
- Petal glass tier curves inward like a flower.
- Turned medallion gathers every petal at the centre.
- Brass finial adds the classic finishing touch.

In Detail
Look closer, petal by petal

Detail 01 — Frame & Petals
Two tiers, one flower
- The upper tier is a ring of upright glass panels, each topped by a curved brass edge, so the rim reads as a scalloped crown against the ceiling.
- Below it, a second tier of petal-shaped panels curves inward and meets at the centre, giving the light its flower-like shape when seen from below.
- Every panel is outlined in a fine brass frame in an antique finish, a warm line that stays visible whether the light is on or off.
Detail 02 — Glass & Medallion
Where the petals meet
- The frosted white glass wraps around the bulbs on every side, so from anywhere in the room you see a soft glow rather than a bright point of light.
- At the centre, the brass ribs of the lower tier come together beneath a turned brass medallion, finished with a small rounded finial.
- Inside, standard E26/E27 sockets take the bulbs of your choice, so finding a replacement is simple.
The Light
How the light fills the room
A ceiling light has a different job from a lamp: it has to light the whole room without ever being uncomfortable to look at. The Petal does this by wrapping every bulb in frosted glass and letting the light leave in every direction at once.
Fig. 3 Side sectionLight path
16–19 cm deepE26 / E27 bulbs, not included
Bulbs out of sight
The frosted glass surrounds the bulbs on every side, so even lying in bed and looking straight up, you see a soft glow instead of a bright point.
Light in every direction
The upright panels send light out toward the walls while the petal tier sends it down to the floor, filling the room evenly rather than lighting one bright circle.
A halo on the ceiling
The glass glows right up to the brass rim, washing the plaster around the fixture with warm light, which helps a low ceiling feel a little higher.
You choose the warmth
Standard E26/E27 sockets take the bulbs you prefer. Warm white LED at 2700K feels calm and restful, while 3000K gives a slightly crisper warm light.
In the Home
Rooms made for this light

Even, glare-free light across rails, shelves and mirror, so colours look true as you dress. The flush profile keeps tall cabinet doors clear.

The first light guests see. A warm welcome as the door opens, with a low profile that suits a narrower hallway ceiling.

Soft, even light over sofas and armchairs, warm enough for slow evenings by the fire.

Bright, even light for cooking and gathering, with no low pendant in your sightline across the room.
A ceiling light should glow, not glare. Every petal is shaped around that one idea.Design notes · SevernLighting
Why petals?
A ceiling light is seen mostly from below. Shaping the lower tier into petals that meet at a brass medallion gives the fixture a flower-like form from that angle, so it still looks considered when the light is switched off.
Why so close to the ceiling?
Many older and smaller homes have ceilings where a pendant would sit too low. At 16–19 cm tall, the Petal keeps headroom clear while still giving the room a proper centrepiece.
Why frosted glass?
Frosted glass turns each bulb into an even glow and stays white for the life of the light. It is the traditional choice for this style of fixture, and it pairs naturally with antique brass.
Why Frosted Glass
Glass, compared with the usual shortcuts
Many ceiling lights use acrylic, fabric or clear glass to save cost or weight. Choose one below to see how it compares with the frosted glass used on the Petal.
