Marelle Glass Rod Tiered Wall Lamp

A curtain of grooved glass rods on a brushed nickel band, lit end to end.

The Marelle Glass Rod Tiered Wall Lamp hangs two staggered tiers of clear grooved glass rods from a curved brushed nickel band, the lower row set in from the upper one. Each rod is channeled down its length, so light entering from inside travels the full drop and the whole curtain of glass lights up rather than just the top.

The nickel band wraps a half-round backplate that holds the rods away from the wall, and the rods hang free so they catch light from the front, the sides, and from underneath. For hardwired wall installation; bulbs not included.

THE LIGHT

Why the Whole Rod Glows

Grooved glass does more than a plain rod.

Each rod is a three-lobed prism, scooped between the lobes and tapered at the end. Light enters at the top, where the rod meets the band, and the lobes and hollow sides carry it down the whole drop, releasing a little the whole way to the end — so the rods read as lines of light rather than glowing only where the bulb sits.

Because the rods hang free rather than sitting in a shade, light also escapes sideways between them and drops out of the open bottom, washing the wall above and the floor below.

ON & OFF

Lit and Unlit

Warm lines of light at night; clear glass and brushed nickel by day.

● ON

○ OFF

Two looks, one fixture

Unlit, the clear rods read as a quiet piece of glasswork against the wall, catching daylight along their grooves.

Lit, each rod becomes a warm vertical line, and the staggered rows throw a soft stepped shadow on the wall behind.

IN THE ROOM

Where It Fits Best

Narrow, tall and shallow — made for the walls other sconces overwhelm.

★ Best Fit

A staircase wall

Mounted as you climb, the rods throw light down onto the treads and up the wall, and the shallow body keeps the stairway clear.

FINDING YOUR FIT

Center it 60–66″ above the floor, measured from the step you stand on if it is on a staircase. In a pair, leave 6–8 ft between fixtures so the pools of light meet.

DETAILS MATTER

What Makes It Special

Three things that set the Marelle apart from a plain glass sconce.

Lit end to end

Channels down every rod carry the light the full drop, so the glass reads as lines of light instead of a bright top and a dark tail.

Shallow on the wall

At 6.7″ deep it suits hallways, stairwells and narrow piers where a wide shade would crowd the space.

Handmade glass, brushed nickel

Each rod is handmade, so the grooves catch light a little differently, set against a soft brushed nickel band that mixes with cool or warm metals.

✓

CARE

Caring for Glass and Nickel

Dry dusting keeps both the grooves and the finish clean.

✓Switch off the power and let the bulb cool first

✓Dust each rod downward with a soft, dry microfiber cloth

✓For marks, use a barely damp cloth on the glass and dry it right away

AVOID

✕Spray cleaner near the socket or the nickel band

✕Abrasive pads, which dull both glass and brushed nickel

✕Sweeping a duster sideways across the rows

Detailed answers on clearance, installation, brightness, bulbs and care.

STILL DECIDING?

Send us your wall measurements: kay@severnlighting.com

Is 6.7″ too deep for a hallway or stairwell?

It projects 6.7″ (17 cm) from the wall, which is modest for a tiered sconce but worth checking in a tight passage. In a hallway, mount it so the whole fixture sits above shoulder height — with the center at 60–66″ the rods end around 53–59″, well clear of anyone walking past, and the glass never reaches into the walking line the way a wide shade would. On a staircase, measure from the tread you will walk on rather than the floor, and keep the same 60–66″ from that step. If your hallway is under 36″ wide, plan the fixture on one wall only so two people can still pass.

How is it installed, and can I do it myself?

It is hardwired to a standard wall junction box, so plan on a licensed electrician unless you are comfortable working on the circuit yourself. The half-round backplate covers the box, and the fixture is mounted before the glass rods are hung, so the metalwork goes up light. Center the backplate at 60–66″ above the floor, or level with the center of a mirror you are flanking, then hang the rods one at a time once the body is secured.

Will the glass rods knock into each other?

The rods hang from the band in two fixed rows rather than swinging on chains, so they sit close without clattering the way a beaded curtain would. When you dust them, steady each rod with one hand rather than sweeping across the row. If one is ever damaged, contact us before ordering a whole new fixture.

Is one lamp bright enough, or should I buy a pair?

A single lamp reads as accent light: the grooved glass spreads a warm glow across the wall and down onto the floor, enough to walk by but not enough to light a whole room. Over a console, beside a bed or next to a mirror, one is usually right. Along a hallway or up a staircase, a pair spaced 6–8 ft apart gives even coverage with no dark stretch between them. Bulbs are not included, so you set the brightness and warmth with your choice of bulb.

What bulbs does it take?

It takes E12/E14 candelabra-base bulbs, which are not included. Choose a bulb no larger than the body so it stays hidden behind the rods, and if you want to dim it, check that both the bulb and your wall dimmer are rated for dimming.

Does nickel work with my other metals?

Brushed nickel is a cool, soft grey that sits easily with chrome, stainless steel and polished nickel, and it also reads as a deliberate contrast against warm brass or black hardware. The clear glass carries no color of its own, so the lamp takes on whatever tone your bulb and wall give it, which makes it easy to mix into a room you have already finished.

How do I clean the glass rods?

Switch off the power and let the bulb cool first. Dust the rods with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, working down each rod rather than across the row. For fingerprints, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately; keep water and spray cleaner away from the socket and the nickel band, and skip abrasive pads, which will dull both the glass grooves and the brushed finish.
