Elvire Alabaster Disc Table Lamp
The Elvire Alabaster Disc Table Lamp stands a single round slab of alabaster upright in a stone base, lit from behind so the whole face glows. The stone is cut thin enough that the veining reads from the front as amber and brown movement across the disc, different on every piece.

FIXTURE DETAILS

The light source sits concealed behind the upright, so nothing is visible from the front but the lit stone — no bulb, no socket, no hardware. Available in three diameters (Ø 11.8", Ø 15.7", Ø 19.7") for a nightstand, a console, or a sideboard where the disc can be read at full size.

Plug-in with cord. Bulb not included; a 3000K warm white suits the stone best.

Take Ø 11.8″ for a nightstand, 15.7″ for a console, and 19.7″ where the disc can be read at full size, such as a sideboard or a wide table. Set it back from the front edge so the whole face stays visible, and plan for an outlet within reach of the cord.

What the thickness gives the light

Light travels through more stone before it reaches you, and that extra depth is what brings the color out — amber where the veins run, cream where the stone is clear. The glow builds through the slab and carries evenly all the way to the rim, so the whole face lights as one piece.

What the thickness gives the piece

The section gives the disc real weight, enough that it stands upright in its base with nothing bracing it from behind. The rim reads as a solid stone edge you can see the depth of, and because each disc is measured across the face, that thickness holds from center to rim.

Unlit

A pale solid disc with the veining barely showing. By day it sits as an object, closer to a piece of stone left standing than to a lamp waiting to be switched on.

Lit

The same veins turn amber and brown and the whole face comes up. Nothing else changes — the source stays hidden behind the upright, so what you see is the stone, not the bulb.

Caring for the Stone

Alabaster asks for less than you think — and reacts badly to most of what is under the sink.

Alabaster is soft and porous. Standing water and anything acidic or abrasive will etch and dull the surface permanently — dust is never the thing that damages it.

Dust dry

A soft dry cloth or a clean makeup brush for the slot and the rim. This is nearly all the care it needs.

Marks, if any

A cloth barely damp with plain water, then dry the spot straight away. Never leave water sitting on the stone.

Keep away from it

Vinegar, lemon, bleach, ammonia, stone sprays, and any scouring pad. All of them etch alabaster.

Lift by the base

Take the weight under the stone base, not by the disc or the upright, and set it down on a dry surface.
